Navigating the transforming world of medtech

Meet Salah Malek, Getinge’s Sales President in the Middle East & Africa, who thrives in the dynamic nature of his role and is eager to meet the evolving needs of the region.

Salah Malek, has been a part of Getinge since 2008, a journey he recalls as filled with significant milestones and expansion.

"Nearly two decades ago, I was probably one of Getinge’s first employees in the Middle East. I find the ever-changing reality in this dynamic region extremely interesting, and I have enjoyed every bit of the ride so far.”

Salah started med school at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. But as fate often has it, the road led him elsewhere.

“I was intimidated by pharmacology, so I didn’t finish med school, instead, I moved to biomedical engineering. An exchange program with University College London brought a guest professor to my school. The two of us bonded and started to collaborate, which sparked the plan to move to the UK for the next phase of my life. In addition, I did my military service in the medical brigade and got in contact with many companies within the med tech field, so I guess the dots were connected when I got into the medical device business later”, Salah continues.

He is very proud of his team’s dedication to addressing significant health issues in the region, such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases, through innovative therapies and educational programs.

"We are a rather small team, with members spread across the region, but we have the possibility to make a great difference together. Our primary focus right now is to enhance our engagement, drive growth, and maximize the success of recent investments to meet the evolving needs in the region. As a leader I aim to guide my team with the motto of celebrating the highs and learning from the lows, a mindset that I believe has a significant impact.”

Talking about possibilities and the future of the region Salah says:

“When it comes to digitalization it is an accelerator in everything we do. Solutions for sterile supply workflows have gained a lot of interest in the region and in recent years we are seeing an increased demand for Getinge’s digital solutions. “

Beyond work, Salah enjoys playing padel, reading, and spending time with his family, based in Dubai.

"I play padel every morning when I am not travelling, sometimes together with colleagues.  I also enjoy reading books, most recently on the topics of longevity and leadership " he shares, offering a glimpse into his life outside work.
