Getinge launches successful inaugural Asia-Pacific Endovascular Vessel Harvesting (EVH) Summit in Singapore

The inaugural Asia-Pacific EVH Summit was held from 16[th] to 17[th] May at the Getinge Experience Center in Singapore. This educational event brought together clinicians from various countries across Asia, and virtually from all over the world, marking a new milestone in Getinge’s global engagement and cardiac surgery educational efforts.

On-site clinicians had a truly immersive and educational experience, from interactive panel discussions to hands-on training and live presentations.  Participants gained valuable clinical insights and skills to enhance their practice.

The panel discussions involved four clinicians sharing their opinions on EVH.  These includes topics such as surgical ergonomics, patient factors, emergency cases, technical aspects, and concluded with reflections and general advice from the panelists.

The summit also featured a series of compelling presentations from renowned clinicians—including practitioners from Hong Kong, China, Japan, and the host country of Singapore. These sessions covered a wide range of topics from new surgical techniques to patient care strategies, vein and radial artery harvesting techniques, and more, offering a comprehensive overview of the current state and future directions of EVH. The presentations were a source of inspiration and learning, showcasing innovative approaches and best practices in the field. These presentations include:

  • Transition from Open to Endoscopic Radial Artery Harvesting: Our Experience – Dr. Qian Qi (Singapore)
  • Innovations in Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting and Enhancing Surgical Outcomes: A Novel Technique of No touch Endoscopic Saphenous Vein Harvesting – Dr. Kunihiko Yoshino (Japan)
  • Implementing Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting & How to Start from Scratch: A Team Review – Dr. Kevin Lim (Hong Kong)
  • Single-Center Experience of Endoscopic Vein Harvesting: An Overview and Setting Yourself up for Success – Dr. Yutian Sun (China)

Getinge’s Global Medical Education and Singapore teams received positive feedback from attending clinicians, exemplifying the success of the event:

  • “I have learned a lot and also discovered areas where I need to improve.” Dr. Yutian Sun (China)
  • “I was very excited to share our experiences and get acquainted with other Asian harvesters. I learned many things through this fantastic meeting.” Dr. Kunihiko Yoshino (Japan)
  • “I would love to join the meeting again next year.” Dr. Kevin Lim (Hong Kong)

The success of the Asia-Pacific EVH Summit has set the stage for it to become a long-running tradition for clinicians in the region. Getinge’s Global Medical Education Team plans to leverage this success not only for future regional EVH Summits in 2024, but also to establish the Asia-Pacific EVH Summit as a flagship event in the Cardiac Surgery educational calendar.

Charles Merchant, Senior Director, Global Medical Education sums up the summit, ‘The inaugural Asia-Pacific EVH Summit was a resounding success, bringing together clinicians from across Asia-Pacific for an enriching and collaborative experience. As we look to the future, we're committed to building on this momentum and continuing to advance the field of endoscopic vessel harvesting.’
